The Prime Meridian and the Equator

imageI feel today that I owe my kind readers some clarity on the time frame of these blogs. They are far from being in real time, but so far they have been in order port-by-port. At this moment I am sitting in the eating area of Deck 6 where students study in groups after the meals are finished. The sun is shining and the sea swell is rocking us back and forth quite nicely–everyone walks like a drunk!
My blogs are swimming hard trying to catch up with the ship–and they are nearly to Africa, Casablanca is within sight.
In fact, we are into our second day out of twelve between Cape Town, South Africa and Buenos Aires, Argentina. We are crossing the Atlantic! And in a good way these days at sea will provide the sort of hours in a row that help to sift and re-enjoy the ports past.

So, in this parenthesis blog, here is one more highlight of the voyage that happened far from any port or shore. image Here we are at the point in the Atlantic that is 0 degrees Longitude and 0 degrees Latitude! The Golden Cross! Never in my wildest dreams would I ever have imagined that I would be at this point on the globe. This happened on October 19, 2013 at 14:14 (2:14 p.m.). The captain of the MVExplorer went off course a little from Tema, Ghana so we could be here.

In this vast sea, our ship is minute. And, just to define minute a bit more, here is our cabin:

There you have it on this first day of November 2013. Life is good! Thanks for reading and accepting time as a variable and images as more lasting.
